It's a night of enchantment, as we explore the newly renovated Beekman Hotel with BOLD principal Charlie Dumais.

This New York City icon, formerly known as Temple Court Building and Annex, was one of the first high-rise buildings in New York. Built in 1883, it was designed in the Queen Anne, Neo-Greco and Renaissance Revival styles, and was designated a New York City Landmark in 1998. Its crowning glory is a pyramidal skylight sitting atop a stunning nine-story atrium.

Brian Orter Lighting Design (BOLD) has created a series of sophisticated and elegant spaces, in collaboration with Gerner Kronick + Valcarcel Architects (GKV) and Martin Brudnizki Design Studio. For this project, BOLD won an Award of Merit for Interior Lighting Design at the 2017 Lumen West Awards.

Brian Orter, Charlie Dumais, Sunhee Lee, Timothy Hart and Bradley Clements were the BOLD lighting designers who worked on this project.

Meet us in the lobby at 6:00pm for a tour of the lobby, atrium, bar, restaurant and guest balcony. Afterwards, stay and mingle in the hotel bar for a social hour hosted by IESNYC.

Charlie Dumais, Principal at BOLD
Charlie graduated from the Pratt Institute School of Interior Design, after which he worked as a model maker, developing custom decorative light fixtures and architectural screens. This experience inspired him to pursue a career in architectural lighting design.

His practice in interior design has instilled a sensitive understanding of color, texture, and scale. Charlie always strives to reveal moments of discovery, sophistication and whimsy through lighting.

Past projects include FDR Four Freedoms Park, Battery Park, Any Angled Light Art Installation Albuquerque, The Monks Garden at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Ace Hotel NYC, and Marta NYC.
