RP-28-16 is intended to increase the designers’ understanding of age-related vision loss and the importance of their design decisions that could impact the safety and independence of this growing sector of the population. This presentation will provide a brief overview of some of the current research and design practices found in RP-28-16 that can help the aged and partially sighted maintain their quality of life.

Participants will be able to:
- Identify the different lighting requirements for the elderly
- Describe contrast
- Analyze differences in lighting contrast
- Prepare to light multiple spaces for living
- Develop an understand of lighting requirements for the senior population

Presenter

Laurie Emery, LC, MIES, is a former lighting designer with over 20 years of experience working alongside architects, engineers and interior designers on numerous projects including both interior and exterior for commercial, educational, retail, hospitality, healthcare and senior living projects.

Laurie's passion for lighting design began after her studies to pursue a career in architecture and electrical design. She is LC Certified and has served in leadership roles at the Section level of the IES in the cities she has lived. She also volunteers in other organizations. Laurie continues to engage her professional lighting posture through constant research of current lighting technology and design trends. She focuses on providing training for design professionals directed toward healthcare applications that encourage healing environments.
