Message from the President

Happy New Year! Before we talk about 2017, I want to tell you how 2016 came to a successful end. At our annual holiday party in December, we outdid ourselves this year by taking three barrels overflowing with gifts, as well as a wad of cash, to Toys for Tots, a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve that distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas. Thank you to all who contributed!

January promises to be a busy month. On January 11, we will present the IES Progress Report-Report, which is geared toward IESNYC members and professionals in allied fields who did not http://iesnyc.org/meetinginfo.php?id=203attend the past IES national conference, giving them an opportunity to hear about and see tabletop demos of some the products that the Progress Report Committee selected.

In the coming weeks, we'll be announcing the winner of the second annual IESNYC Scholarship, a merit-based single-year scholarship to recognize and support potential future leaders in the field of architectural lighting. In addition to members of the Board of Managers who are on the Scholarship Committee, we invited two highly regarded members of the Section to be guest jurors: Stephen Bernstein of CBBLD and Susannah Zweighaft of the AKF Group. Stephen happens to be our Member of the Month, and I invite you to read more about him and gain an insight into why he was selected to be a juror as well as January’s featured Member of the Month.

This year's Calendar Sponsorship Campaign, Lighting Leads, is in progress, and we invite former and new sponsors to read about the benefits of sponsorship.

As a reminder, you can enter your projects for consideration for the 2017 Lumen Awards until January 17. Click Here to submit your projects.

And finally, I want to congratulate Editor-in-Chief, Elizabeth Donoff and Architectural Lighting on their 30th anniversary.

On behalf of the IESNYC Board of Managers, I wish you a happy, healthy, and bright New Year.

Sincerely,
Brian Belluomini, President
New York City Section of The Illuminating Engineering Society
