Learn About the History of Dark Skies and How to Identify Luminaires that meet DS Criteria

Upon completion of this program the student will be able to:

  • Explain what the Dark Sky means and how we are losing it
  • Describe how the loss of dark skies impacts humans, animals, and the environment
  • Identify Dark Sky friendly features in a luminaire
  • List dark sky organizations, programs, and regulations that impact the design of lighting for homes and communities
  • Discuss the importance of incorporating Dark Sky Friendly design into modern lighting.

Cynthia Turner, SELUX Corporation

Ms. Turner attended the Pratt Institute where she was first introduced to lighting. She has held positions in Lighting and Architectural practices as well as in manufacturing. She worked as a Lighting Designer with Howard Brandston and Hambrecht Terrell (now FRCH). Cynthia has spent many years working in manufacturing in roles with the specification community as well as distribution and national accounts. She has taught lighting at City College, FIT and Parsons.
