Message from the President

Have you registered to attend the 17th annual Student Lighting Competition this Tuesday, March 7? The theme of this year’s competition — Light, Scaled — challenges students to construct a three-dimensional study that explores the scale of light and its impact on perception. Lighting installations designed by close to 200 students from Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), Fordham University, NYSID, NYU, Parsons the New School of Design, Pratt Institute, New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), and City College of New York will be on view, and OVI’s Enrique Peiniger will deliver a keynote address about “Lighting Powers of 10.” We’ll be posting the winning projects on our website shortly after the event.
The Fundamentals of Lighting series, an introductory course ideal for professionals who want a thorough overview of the field and for those who have only a basic awareness of lighting, begin this Wednesday. A combination of eight classes take place March 8, 14, 21, 27 and April 4, 11, 18, 25.

Bruce Fink, president of Enterprise Lighting Sales, is our Member of the Month. Bruce is a former president of the IES Long Island Section, and is now a strong supporter of the IESNYC. Bruce and ELS have been a Platinum sponsor for many years, helping us to fund programs and initiatives that benefit our members and industry.
