Workshop: Photometry in Action

Thursday, August 15  |  8:00am - 12:00pm
Location: Off-site @ Parsons School of Design
Photometry in Action is a hands-on workshop exploring luminaire photometry to be delivered in the Lighting Laboratory at Parsons School of Design’s School of Constructed Environments. The Lighting Laboratory at Parsons houses a LabSpion goniophotometer fully capable of generating a complete luminaire photometric report, including both luminous intensity and spectral data along with a .ies file.

The workshop will feature a “round-robin” rotation of groups of participants working with the goniophotometer to actually measure a luminaire, alternating with a presentation of the elements of a representative photometric report, essentially covering the “anatomy” of a photometric report.

Community Centered Models in Practice: Expanding the Role of Lighting Design Beyond Arbitrators of Lux

Saturday, August 17  |  10:05am – 11:05am
Francesca joins Luciana Martinez and Iris Ahn to discuss the evolution of the lighting industry from its architectural and interior design roots. They will address the social, ethical, and biological impacts of light, emphasizing a holistic design approach that includes public engagement and education. By examining the methodologies of two firms, Sighte Studio in New York and Light Follows Behaviour in London, the presentation showcases how alternative approaches in lighting design can address disparities and enhance advocacy for community members. Case studies from these firms demonstrate the long-term value of such methodologies, encouraging lighting designers to rethink their roles and contributions.
