IESNYC Members Take the Lead at IES24: The Lighting Conference held in NYC August 15-17

IESNYC members took the lead at IES24 during 3 days of hands-on workshops, educational sessions, lighting tours, award ceremonies, networking receptions and a curated program for Emerging Professionals. The IESNYC contributed $30,000 to the EP Scholarship fund, helping to host dozens of EPs at the conference, who arrived from as far away as El Salvador and Alaska, and as close as Philadelphia. The Conference was held in New York City at the New York Marriott Marquis in Times Square.

Member Craig Bernecker shared his expertise at a photometry workshop, while Francesca Bastianini, and Daniel Blitzer shared their knowledge at educational sessions. Shaun Fillion also led a 3 hour evening walking tour on the history of lighting throughout NYC.

IESNYC members also volunteered their time during Emerging Professionals Day and the Leadership Forum, proving that the future of lighting design is in good hands. Megan Carroll and Kelly Roberts were involved in organizing events as part of the EP committee.

Megan Carroll emceed an entertaining lighting jeopardy game show to teach EPs about the numerous roles of the industry and how we all work together in a collaborative spirit. Member Charles Selander participated amongst other industry colleagues.

Kelly Roberts organized an industry networking event so Emerging Professionals could learn firsthand about the many roles in the industry such as manufacturing, design, research, sales, distribution, etc. Members Alessa Aguayo, Francesca Bastianini, Nathaniel Bliss, Jamie Devenger, Shaun Fillion, Dan Ozminkowski, and IESNYC President,  Shoshanna Segal along with other industry colleagues partook in the event by sitting at specific tables as EPs rotated around the room every 10 minutes to learn about roles in the industry.

Kelly Roberts also organized a site tour for the EPs with the designers of the Perelman Center—an Illumination Awards winning project (see more on that below).

In addition, Megan Carroll served on the Illumination Awards Committee and presented at the 51st Illumination Awards ceremony.

The IES Distinguished Service Award, was presented to IESNYC member Shaun Fillion of the New York School of Interior Design. This award honors many years of significant non-technical contributions to the IES mission. Fillion was honored: “It's wonderful that IES recognizes not only service to the Society at large but also activities at the local chapter level. I have been lucky to have worked for companies and for bosses who encouraged me to get involved in the IES community. If you're an employer or a supervisor, please encourage your team members to pursue their interests and get involved with IES. Our involvement in this community helps to share knowledge and best practices, as well as cultivate future leaders in the lighting industry.”
