Registration Open for IES LC Study Group

Information & Instruction for LC Candidates Considering taking the NCQLP Exam

The IES LC Study Group is designed for those planning to take the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions (NCQLP) lighting certification exam. We will also open it up to those who wish to improve their lighting knowledge or gauge if they are adequately prepared to write the exam. 

Critical information: Enrollment in the LC Study Group is not mandatory in order to take the NCQLP exam. Enrollment in the LC Study Group will NOT register you to take the NCQLP LC Exam, nor ensure a passing score. Registration to take the exam is separate please go to www.ncqlp.org to register. The Study Group
The all-virtual LC Study Group will be led by a team of qualified individuals from the Lighting Agora, led by Gerry Cornwell; and including instructors Dan Blitzer, and Tom Butters. The course will feature 15 unique classes (live delivery) over 7 weeks (about 1 and a half months). 

Schedule

    Week 1: August 29 and 31 Nomenclature & Definitions (LS-1-20)
    Week 2: September 5 and 7 Lighting Science and Technology
    Week 3: September 12 and 14 Interior Applications
    Week 4: September 19 and 21 Exterior Applications, NFPA 101, NFPA 70
    Week 5: September 26 and 28 Standard 90.1, LEED
    Week 6: October 3 and 5 Photometry and Calculations
    Week 7: October 10 and 12 Controls, Daylighting, Economics
    Finish: October 13 Open Q&A Session

The Exam is offered from October 16 through November 17, at test centers.

Format
All sessions are online, and participants’ questions will be encouraged. In general, the Tuesday classes will consist of review of the previous week’s readings, and the Thursday sessions will be homework review and seminar style interaction. 
 • Duration: 90-120 minutes per session + minimum 120 minutes of homework per week 
 • Program: 14 sessions, plus an open Q&A on the final day 

Value
The cost below includes the classes above, as well as one-year access to the Lighting Library, the collection of IES standards (and primary study material for the LC):
 • $900 for IES Members (Become a Member
 • $1100 for non-Members
