Students who wish to take both Intensive Lighting Design Studio and Daylighting Design Intensive should enroll for this course. This will offer students who choose this option a discount. See below for details on each program.

Intensive Lighting Design Studio
June 10–17

Parsons Summer Intensive Lighting Design Studio is a week-long immersion experience in lighting design in the heart of New York City. Targeted to practicing professionals, it offers the opportunity to expand your knowledge and capabilities in lighting design and to refresh and reinvigorate skills and gain experience with cutting-edge techniques in lighting design practice. Working with the full-time faculty and taking advantage of the expertise in the MFA Lighting Design program in the School of Constructed Environments at Parsons School of Design (part of The New School), participants spend a full seven days in the studio environment working on a lighting design project sited in New York City, participating in hands-on exercises to better understand the role light can play in architectural environments learning design techniques to achieve excellence in lighting design, and taking advantage of the vast resources in the New York metropolitan area.

Daylighting Design Intensive
June 17 – 24

Offered consecutively with the Parsons Summer Intensive Lighting Design Studio, the Parsons Summer Intensive Daylighting Design Studio can be taken as a stand-alone course, a follow-up to a prior Parsons Summer Intensive Lighting Design Studio, or as a package with the Parsons Summer Intensive Lighting Design Studio (two weeks). The Daylighting Intensive will extend the analysis of the design project sited in New York to exploring daylight availability, fenestration opportunities, and the overall quality of daylighting through physical modeling along with the use of the light lab’s heliodon and diffuse sky simulator, as well as analytical techniques. Working with the full-time faculty in the MFA Lighting Design Program, the emphasis of the intensive is on the quality of daylight and its interaction with electric light and lighting controls.
