Established in 1968 by IESNYC, the Lumen Awards celebrate excellence, professionalism, ingenuity, and originality in lighting design. For more than five decades, the awards have recognized the visionary designers and their exceptional projects that have shaped our industry.

Now, it’s your turn to shine.

The 2027 IESNYC Lumen Awards are officially open for submissions, and we’re looking for projects that showcase the creativity, innovation, and artistry of exceptional lighting design. Whether your project is bold and groundbreaking, beautifully understated, or solves a complex design challenge, this is your opportunity to put your work in the spotlight.

ELIGIBILITY

The Lumen Awards are open to any interior or exterior architectural lighting design projects completed within two years’ time of the submission deadline. Projects may be re-submitted during the years projects are eligible.

Eligible projects must be designed by a New York City metropolitan area* based designer(s) for projects located anywhere in the world.
OR
Projects must be located in the New York City metropolitan area* regardless of the location of the designer(s).

*NYC metropolitan area consists of the five boroughs of New York City and the NY counties of Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Ulster, Westchester, Nassau and Suffolk as well as Fairfield, CT and the Northern NJ counties of Bergen, Passaic, Essex, Hudson and Union. 

ENTRY FEE
Submission fee is $250 per project submission. Fees are not refundable and there is no guarantee of receiving an award or publicity.

ABOUT THE IESNYC LUMEN AWARDS

Since 1968, the IESNYC Lumen Awards program has publicly recognized lighting design members whose exceptional professionalism, ingenuity and originality in lighting design has culminated in some of the world’s most innovative lighting projects. 

Awards are presented in the following categories:

Lumen Award of Excellence
Highest level of achievement for a permanent architectural application

Lumen Award of Merit
Meritorious achievement for permanent architectural application

Lumen Citation
Special recognition for a permanent or temporary lighting installation, technical detail, portion of a single project, or other work.
