How can lighting designers improve their relationships with manufacturers, and extend their influence over reps, distributors, and GCs?

Based on lively and interactive sessions from both the 2022 and 2023 IALD Enlighten Americas Conferences, we bring to NYC an updated version of these in-person presentations.

Lighting designers often think their intent, as communicated to others, is crystal clear. But there are moments when a designer's motivation and meaning are received as fuzzy and unfocused. Only through open dialogue and respect for all the players can we achieve clarity.

Our panel, including experts from both the LIRC and IALD, will present data from a survey of professionals from a diverse cross-section of the lighting channel. The purpose is to expand designers’ knowledge of and appreciation for the motivations and challenges facing their colleagues.

GOALS

  • Improve communication between lighting designers and manufacturers
  • Discuss how designers might extend their influence over reps, distributors, GCs, etc.
  • Explore resources for designers to learn about the greater lighting supply channel

Session attendees will be asked to share their questions and comments. The design community will feel the love while learning new strategies and gaining perspective.
