Moonlighting 5

An Exhibition of Art and Design Created by Lighting Industry Professionals

Now in its fifth consecutive year, New York-based lighting professionals — designers, agency reps, manufacturers, educators, plus a few friends from allied fields — exhibited their after-hours creative pursuits at Moonlighting 5, held at New York Digital at Acuity Brands Center for Light + Space on September 4, 2019. This year, 47 visual and performing artists exhibited/performed their works in the presence of a record-breaking 300+ attendees from the lighting industry and beyond during the exhibition and reception.

"Years ago, Moonlighting was just a fun idea I had. It's so rewarding to see how far we've grown in five years and how much support we've had from the IESNYC, DLFNY, and IALD NY," says Cline Bettridge Bernstein’s Nathalie Faubert. “It's fun and always surprising to see what our colleagues do creatively in off-hours and it's rewarding to see that the participating artists and the lighting community agree."

The projects selected for the exhibition were curated by the Moonlighting Committee which consists of members representing the three New York City professional lighting organization — IESNYC, DLFNY, and IALD NY. They are responsible for all aspects of producing the event including logistics and fundraising. Works included collage, drawing, jewelry, mixed-media, neon, oil painting on wood, painting, photography, and soundtracks. In addition to returning artists who exhibited their latest works, Moonlighting 5 had several first-time participants.

"Now in its fifth year, Moonlighting has become a tradition in the New York City lighting community," adds Randy Sabebra of RS Lighting Design. “It's a great event and the best way we know for the community to not only celebrate itself, but the talents of our individual members."
