IESNYC Honors the 2019 Service Award Recipients
As an integral part of our Lumen Gala, the IESNYC recognizes members who play a crucial role in the success of the New York City section and lighting community with their amazing display of spirit, passion, and dedication. This year, the IESNYC recognized six of our members who make our section shine.
2019 IESNYC Golden Achievement Award
Paul Gregory, MIES
Principal, Focus Lighting
Paul is an illustrious member of our Section and the New York City lighting community. After designing the lighting for shows at regional theaters, he moved on to architectural lighting, specializing in nightclubs. In 1987, he founded Focus Lighting. The firm’s projects are worldwide, encompass every typology, and demonstrate excellence in lighting design. Over the years, he has graciously contributed his expertise to the IESNYC and to the Society. Focus Lighting has garnered over 20 Lumen Awards and, at the 2019 Lumen Awards Gala, he and his Focus Lighting team received both a Lumen Citation for a kinetic façade treatment at Ocean Wonders: Sharks!, and a Lumen Merit Award for the Canadian National Holocaust Museum.
2019 IESNYC Special Recognition Award
Francesca Bettridge, LC, IALD, FIES
President, Cline Bettridge Bernstein Lighting Design
Francesca leads by example. She served as co-spokesperson (with CBBLD partner Stephen Bernstein) for the 2019 IESNYC Sponsorship Campaign, helping us achieve our fundraising goals. Her participation at last year’s program, Lumens – Then and Now, gave us insight into her professional trajectory and her personal philosophy of excellence in lighting design, which led her firm to garner many awards, including at least 45 Lumen Awards to date. Past Section achievements include serving on the IESNYC Board of Managers and the Richard Kelly Grant Committee. At the 2019 Lumen Gala, Francesca was presented with a Citation Award for an integrated ceiling feature at the offices of Twin Brook Capital Partners.
2019 IES Section Service Award
Lucia Granieri, MIES
Branch Manager, HZ Electrical Supply/US Electrical Services
Lucia has been on the IESNYC Board of Managers from 2014 to 2019. In 2008, she began serving on the Programs North Committee and subsequently became the committee’s chair. She has produced educational and social programs for our 60-plus members residing in Ulster, Dutchess, Orange, and Westchester Counties. She has been a valued member of the Board of Managers, and we thank her for dedication and her past and future contributions.
2019 IES Meritorious Service Award
Susannah Gilbard, LC, CLD, LEED AP, IALD, MIES
Partner, Lightcraft
When we asked Susannah to be the IESNYC Sponsorship Campaign spokesperson for 2018, she didn’t hesitate to lend her name to our cause. She also graciously served as co-chair of the Lumen Committee, was on a Lumen Jury, and was a guest judge on the IESNYC Merit Scholarship Committee. The Section relies on her wisdom and talent, and her commitment to the IESNYC and the New York City lighting community.
2019 IES Meritorious Service Award
Charles (Chuck) Cameron, MIES
Controls Specialist, Stan Deutsch Associates
Chuck moved up the Section ladder by becoming a member of the Board of Managers, then Section secretary, Section VP, and finally he became the 89th president of the IESNYC (2011/12 – 2012/13). One of his many accomplishments as president was ensuring that the IESNYC Thesis Awards became an annual prize. A versatile lighting professional, Chuck worked in theatrical and architectural lighting, which makes him an in-demand instructor for IESNYC educational programs. He developed the NYSID program in graduate lighting, where he remains on staff and supports his students’ participation in the IESNYC Student Lighting Competition.
2019 IESNYC Emerging Professional Award
Brigid Hardiman, MIES, MPS Candidate, NYSID
Lighting Designer, Lightcraft
Brigid is this year’s recipient of the IESNYC Merit Scholarship. The Scholarship Committee commended her for her determination to share her knowledge and her commitment to “pay it forward” by guiding future generations of students. She is co-chair of the annual IESNYC Student Lighting Competition, one of the Section’s most ambitious programs. In addition, she works as a lighting designer at Lightcraft.
