Established in 1906, the Illuminating Engineering Society is the recognized technical and educational authority on illumination. The mission is to improve the lighted environment by bringing together those with lighting knowledge and by translating that knowledge into actions that benefit the public. IES provides a variety of professional development, publications, networking and educational opportunities to a membership of engineers, architects, designers, educators, students, contractors, distributors, utility personnel, manufacturers and scientists in nearly 60 countries. Through the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited process, the IES publishes and maintains the Lighting Library®, with over 100 standards written by subject matter experts in IES technical committees.

The IESNYC is the New York City Section of the IES comprised of approximately 600 locals engaged in a professional capacity of illumination, the art or science of illuminating engineering, illuminating literature or a related field.

The IESNYC’s monthly meetings, lectures, project tours, seminars, classes, and social events provide knowledge, inspiration and networking opportunities for lighting professionals and students alike. All of IESNYC’s featured monthly events are available to members, non-members and the public.
