Award-winning lighting designer Matthew Tirschwell made the news when he jumped onto the subway tracks and saved the life of a man struck by a train. This dramatic rescue reinforced his belief that we all have a duty to help the stranger in need.
"For me, being an EMT is part of my identity. It is not for everyone – and I get that. At the least I urge you to learn CPR and take a Stop the Bleed class. These classes are very quick, easy, and available in almost every community. (I’ll even come to your office and teach the staff during a lunch break.) You never know when you’ll be the person standing there, the one who could make a difference. Do you want to be the one who knows what to do and helps? Or the one standing there shooting video?" CALL FOR ENTRIES: 2025 IESNYC Student Lighting Competition
The IESNYC invites students from New York City Art and Design schools to participate in a city-wide design competition. The 2025 challenge, "A Sight for Sore Eyes" challenges students to share an eyesore experience and construct a three-dimensional study to solve the visual discomfort of viewers. Students enrolled in design, engineering or architecture programs at colleges or universities in the five boroughs of New York City or the New York counties of the former Mid-Hudson Section are eligible to submit, regardless of residency.
