Evocative Luminance

How can light be used to trigger an emotion or spark a memory? For the ninth year, the New York Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America has invited students from New York City Art and Design schools to participate in a design competition. This year’s theme – EVOCATIVE LUMINANCE. In the past, students in lighting, architecture, interior design, art, product design, photography and electrical engineering programs have submitted projects, resulting in a diverse showcase of ideas and interpretations on a single theme. With the theme of EVOCATIVE LUMINANCE, the IESNY empowered students to explore light as an art form, demonstrate light as a stimulus, and prove light as a valuable medium. Our goal was to both energize today’s students and to inspire them to become future leaders in the lighting industry.

Submissions from this year's competitors came from the following area schools: Pratt Institute, Parsons the New School for Design, Fashion Institute of Technology, Cooper Union, School of Visual Arts.
