IESNYC Honors the 2018 Service Award Recipients

Brilliance is defined as extreme brightness or radiance, exceptional intelligence, ability, skill, or talent, imposing splendor or magnificence. On June 14, 2018 at the Lumen Gala, the IESNYC proudly recognized the following members with these qualities—individuals who make the New York City Section shine.

2018 Brilliance Award

Robert Prouse, FIES, IALD
Brandston Partnership Inc.
Mr. Prouse is partner and president of Brandston Partnership Inc. and has been a member of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) since 1977, where he has served on the Membership Committee, the Board of Directors, and as a judge for the Lighting Design Awards program. He is a Fellow of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES). He has been “Lighting Certified” by the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions (NCQLP), and was the chair of their Body of Knowledge sub-committee.

Robert taught lighting design in the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation of Columbia University for five years; in the Graduate Design Department of Pratt Institute for seven years; and was the Director of the MA and MFA degree programs in Lighting Design at the Parsons School of Design in New York City for seven years, and was a member of the faculty for twenty-seven years. He has served on panels for Light Fair, Designers’ Lighting Forum, Lighting World International, and the IESNA. He wrote the Lighting Chapter of the current edition of Architectural Graphic Standards.

2018 IES Section Service Award

Nathalie Faubert, MIES
Cline Bettridge Bernstein Lighting Design

Nathalie is a senior associate at CBBLD and is known for her balance of strong design skills and organization with a good-humored spirit of collaboration. As a designer she is generous—sharing her expertise and offering solutions that improve projects for her clients as well as for design staff. She spends her evenings as an adjunct faculty member teaching lighting design at the New York School of Interior Design. Nathalie is also an active member of DLF’s LEDucation. Over the years she has been involved with the New York City section as a volunteer and organizer. Her most significant contribution to the IESNYC is as the founder of Moonlighting — an event that showcases the talents of the lighting design community and affiliates in other art forms, including graphic design, painting, photography, video compositions, music, and more. Moonlighting is a joint collaboration between the IESNYC, DLFNY and IALD/NY. 2018 will be Moonlighting’s fourth year.

2018 IES Meritorious Service Award

Clara Powell, LC, MIES
Cooledge Lighting

Clara is regional sales manager at Cooledge Lighting. She has been the 2017 and 2018 co-chair of the Lumen Awards, she served on the Richard Kelly committee, and was the 84th president of the IESNYC in 2001 to 2003. She has contributed tirelessly in every strategic area of our New York City section and continues to contribute to the New York design and specification community in numerous ways.

2018 IES Meritorious Service Award

Suzan Tillotson, IALD, MIES
Tillotson Design Associates
Suzan is founder and president of Tillotson Design Associates. When the IESNYC asks Suzan to help, her response is always “how can I help.” No request is too big or too small.
